(a) Aberration-corrected TEM image of suspended graphene monolayer with Fourier transform patter in inset. (b) Principle of suspended graphene nanoribbon device patterning. (c) Aberration-corrected TEM image of atomically smooth graphene edge.
The SUGAREE project aims at taking graphene nanoribbons technology to a new level of control and understanding by combining a non-amorphizing, non-contaminating nanopatterning method with transport device fabrication process and extreme electronic measurements. The objectives are three-fold: (i) investigating the respective contributions of substrate , inter-layer interaction and edge crystallinity on the magneto-transport in suspended mono- and bilayer GNR devices, (ii) developing a generic set of methods able to produce GNR devices with atomically smooth edges and (iii) building the basis for a graphene-based atomic-scale technology by transferring patterning, contacting and transport measurements in UHV-STM environment. Three groups, GNS CEMES, nMat-carbon CEMES and LNCMI-T will contribute to the SUGAREE project with their respective expertise in graphene nanoribbons fabrication, ultra-high vacuum atomic scale imaging, electron and optical microscopy and pulsed magneto-transport.
