Atomic structure of the Pt/Co interfaces
This project aims at understanding the relationship between Rashba states and spin-to-charge conversion at the active interfaces of spin-orbitronic devices, like THz emitters. It will also allow to understand how this phenomenon can be tuned, by cleverly inserting different atomic layers at these interfaces. The project will associate the MEM team of the CEMES, which will use relativistic first-principles codes based on the density functional theory (DFT) to get information on the Rashba states (dispersion and spin-texture) and a team of the CNRS-Thales group in Saclay, which will calculate the spin-to-charge conversion using semi-phenomenological approaches and the electronic structure calculated from first-principles by the CEMES-team. Co/M( n MLs)/Pt interfaces, where M is a metallic layer with a thickness of n atomic planes inserted between Co and Pt, will be studied (M=Ti, Au, Hf).
