Ionization signal (upper panel) as a function of laser frequency for 3 laser intensities and for a “long” (20 fs) laser pulse. Lower panel provides the optical response exhibiting a clean surface plasmon peak around 2.7 eV.
The project, based on a recent collaboration between the LCAR/theory group and the LPT/cluster group, aims, on the one hand, at extensively studying the electronic response of (possibly large) clusters and molecules irradiated by short (femtosecond) to ultra-short (attosecond pulse trains) laser pulses with the production of photoelectrons in relation with resonant effects; and, on the other hand, at identifying and disentangling the role of resonances in the observed electronic observables in the light of elementary mechanisms well understood in simpler systems (atoms and simple molecules). To that end, a systematic comparison will be performed in simple systems between microscopic quantum theories relying on different levels of approximation (time- dependent Schrödinger equation, multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree approach, time-dependent density functional theory) and analytic models, thanks to the complementary expertise on many-body approaches at the LPT and few-body theories at LCAR.
